If spring cleaning isn’t your favorite time of year, you’re doing it wrong! Seriously though, it’s a great time to give your home a deep clean, clear up some space by getting rid of things you don’t need, and feel nice and relaxed going into the summer.
One of the hardest parts of spring cleaning is knowing where to start. That’s why we’ve made this room-by-room spring cleaning checklist! It covers absolutely everything you need to do. Start here and you’ll be on track to a fresh, sparkling home this spring! So, grab that feather duster and let’s dive in, shall we?
Kitchen Spring Cleaning Checklist
A cluttered kitchen isn’t good for the mind, and a dirty kitchen is downright unhygienic! To spring clean your kitchen:
- Clean the stovetop, oven, microwave, refrigerator, freezer, and other appliances
- Go through your fridge and pantry – discard any expired or old food items
- Wipe down interior and exterior cabinet surfaces
- Dust tops of surfaces, like the top of your fridge, range hood, and cabinets
- Clean your sponges and dish rags
- Degrease and deodorize your sink drains
- Mop floors and clean floor mats
- Organize your pantry, cabinets, shelves, and fridge
- Clean under and behind large appliances
- Empty and clean ice maker tray
- Clean out water dispenser (refer to your refrigerator manual for specifics)
- Descale coffee maker and/or kettle
If there’s anything on the list you’re not sure how to do, a quick YouTube search should help you out. When it comes to cleaning your appliances, always consult the manuals, which can usually be found online if you don’t have hard copies.
To degrease and deodorize drains, start by flushing the drain with hot water to loosen buildup. Next, pour a mixture of baking soda and white vinegar (about half a cup of each) down the drain. Let the mixture fizz and sit for 10 to 15 minutes to break down grease and neutralize odors, and follow with a pot of boiling water to clear out the residue.
Bonus kitchen tip: After you empty and clean out your tupperware cabinet, take the opportunity to make your own tupperware organizer – it will literally change your life!
Bathroom Spring Cleaning Checklist
It’s a lot easier to feel clean in a bathroom that is clean! Although it might be one of the smaller rooms in your home, there’s still a lot to clean in your bathroom. Here’s a quick list for you:
- Clean bathtub and/or shower
- Descale shower head and faucets if necessary
- Clean toilet
- Clean sink, vanity, and mirror
- Sweep and mop floors
- Wash or replace shower curtain liner
- Clean under the sink
- Properly discard of any expired products
- Clean exhaust fan
- Wash or replace bath mats or rugs
If you’ve noticed your drain is running a bit slowly, you can always use a drain snake to clear any clogs. Insert the snake into the drain, rotate and push it forward to break up the clog, then slowly retract while continuing to rotate, repeating until the drain is clear.
Bonus bathroom tip: If you have hard water, you’re probably sick and tired of those hard water spots that form on your faucets. To prevent them, you can rub candle wax onto the faucet surface and then buff it with a microfiber cloth. It creates a water-repellent barrier that stops the stains from forming. Voila!
Dining Room Spring Cleaning Checklist
Planning on entertaining as the days get longer? Then you’ll need a dining room that’s spick and span! Don’t forget to:
- Vacuum or spot clean chair cushions
- Wipe down light fixtures, china, and decorations
- Mop or vacuum floor
- Wipe down table and side table surfaces
- Dust wall art
Bonus dining room tip: Once you’ve done the hard work and your dining room is spotless, add a vase of fresh-cut flowers to your table – it’s the perfect finishing touch to really feel like you created a completely refreshed space!
Living Room Spring Cleaning Checklist
To spring clean your living room:
- Wash blankets and pillows
- Vacuum and/or spot clean couch and chairs
- Vacuum, sweep, and/or mop floor
- Sanitize remote controls
- Wipe down or dust all surfaces and electronics
- Dust wall art and decorations
- Clean under and behind furniture
Bonus living room tip: However you normally clean your floors, now is the time to take it one step further… if you have a washable rug that you usually just vacuum, wash it! If you normally wipe your floors clean with a flat mop, opt for a good scrub and mop for a deeper clean.
Bedroom Spring Cleaning Checklist
Don’t forget about your bedroom! To give it a spring clean:
- Wash all bedding and laundry strip pillows
- Flip mattress (only if it applies – some have a specific top side)
- Organize closets and dressers – donate clothes you no longer need and re-fold the rest
- Dust all surfaces and decor
- Mop or vacuum floors
- Shampoo rugs or carpets
- Clean under the bed

Laundry Room Spring Cleaning Checklist
Yes, even your laundry room needs a spring clean! You can freshen it up by:
- Organizing laundry supplies
- Cleaning the washing machine
- Emptying lint trap and dryer vent
- Sweeping and mopping the floor
- Cleaning behind and under the washer and dryer
