Christilynn never thought a simple message on Facebook would change her life—but it did, and not in a good way.
What started as a casual conversation with a stranger grew into emotional manipulation and financial ruin. The scammer convinced her to send money, first from her retirement savings and insurance policies, then through personal loans and credit cards.
“I gave away basically all of my retirement money, all of my savings,” Christilynn said. “I fell for it hook, line, and sinker and got myself in a lot of trouble.”
Hitting Rock Bottom
The scam left Christilynn with more than $61,000 in debt. She also lost her long-time job in the insurance industry after co-workers discovered what was happening. “That was my breaking point,” she recalled. “I couldn’t pay the bills anymore. This fake person wasn’t coming to help. I felt hopeless.”
Her family intervened when things got worse. At one point, her children even called the police to protect her. “I was embarrassed and ashamed. I thought about giving up completely,” she said. “But my husband and kids came around me and said, ‘We’ll help you through this. You’re more important to us than this.’”
Finding National Debt Relief
Christilynn considered bankruptcy, but she worried it would damage her husband’s credit. She wanted a solution that would help her take responsibility without dragging him down.
“When I found National Debt Relief, I said, ‘This is what I need to do… and it won’t involve my husband and his credit,’” she explained. “I didn’t want him to have to suffer anymore.”
She cut up her credit cards, committed to the program, and began budgeting tightly. “It wasn’t easy. I went without extras, even at Christmas. But I knew I had to do it,” she said.
A Hard Road That Paid Off
Over four years, Christilynn stuck with the program and gradually worked through her debts. She celebrated each settlement, especially the first one. “It was close to 50% of what I owed,” she remembered. “That felt really good.”
Graduation was even sweeter. “It was very exciting. Everything was paid off,” she said. To surprise her husband, she even paid off a car loan early. “He couldn’t believe it. It all came together at once.”
Moving Forward with Hope
Today, Christilynn and her husband are planning long-overdue vacations. She’s back to spoiling her grandchildren, carefully managing her finances, and rebuilding her retirement savings.
“I shut down my Facebook for years and locked my credit. I’m more careful online now,” she said. “But I also know I can move forward. There is hope.”
Her Advice for Others
For Christilynn, graduating from the program wasn’t just about paying off debt—it was about getting her life back on track.
“Don’t give up hope,” she said. “I was in so deep I didn’t see a way out. For me, it was National Debt Relief. They helped me get out of something I didn’t think I could ever get out of on my own.”
